Richmond is set to dazzle this holiday season with a spectacular lineup of free Christmas events hosted by Be Richmond, the Business Improvement District (BID). Residents and visitors of all ages can look forward to a magical combination of festive favourites, including the much-anticipated Christmas Light Switch-On, an enchanting Nutcracker Trail, and a 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway brimming with prizes from local businesses.
Christmas Light Switch-On – 21st November
Kicking off the festive cheer is Richmond’s annual Christmas Light Switch-On, transforming the town into a glimmering winter wonderland. George Street will come alive with performers, including stilt walkers, Clockwork Ballerinas, and Nutcracker characters spreading holiday magic.
Starting at 5pm, Riverside Radio will broadcast live, setting the stage for performances by Skylarks, a local charity, joined by their celebrity ambassador. The Rock Choir will also bring their uplifting harmonies to the festivities.
At 5.45pm, stars from this year’s Richmond Theatre pantomime, Beauty and the Beast, will join the Mayor of Richmond upon Thames to officially light up the town, marking the start of the Christmas season. Visitors can then enjoy late-night shopping, sparkling riverside lights, and a festive family photo by the town’s magnificent 26ft Christmas tree, sponsored by Sticks n’ Sushi, Moore Barlow, and Foot Solutions.
Nutcracker Trail – 23rd November to 24th December
Launching on 23rd November, the Nutcracker Trail invites families on a charming quest through Richmond to locate missing Nutcracker figures. Buddy the Elf will kick off the trail at Richmond Station, leading search parties at 11am and 1pm.
Participants who complete the trail will be rewarded with a festive treat and the chance to win exciting prizes, including a £100 restaurant voucher for 144 On The Hill or a Venchi luxury chocolate hamper. Buddy will return for appearances on 7th and 21st December to add more festive fun.
12 Days of Christmas Giveaway – 1st to 12th December
From 1st to 12th December, Be Richmond will host its 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway, offering fabulous prizes from local businesses. Treats include a Champagne afternoon tea for two at The Petersham, a £100 gift card from Gaucho, and a wellness package from 50 Hill Rise worth £100.
Be Richmond’s “Be Festive” campaign is dedicated to spreading Christmas joy while supporting the local community and businesses. Whether you’re enjoying live performances, exploring the Nutcracker Trail, or entering the exciting giveaways, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in Richmond this holiday season.
