The holidays are here and the summer blockbuster season gets off to the biggest of starts on this week’s Talking Pictures. Legendary director Steven Spielberg, and the Oscar winning star of the film, Mark Rylance, talk about The BFG, their latest film together at its London press conference. And London Mums’ resident film critic, Freda Cooper, was there to hear what they had to say.

Swallows and Amazons is a pleasant upcoming family film for this Summer to add to the list of great great movies released or due to be released soon (Finding Dory & Piper, The Secret Life of Pets ….). The enchanting film will be in cinemas from 19 August. It brings to life the classic novel by Arthur Ransome, telling the tale of the Walker children’s summer holiday in the Lake District, sailing, camping and fishing.

2016 marks the 100th anniversary of Dahl’s birth and to celebrate one of the most creative authors of all times, there will be a movie release in the Summer. From the minds of two of the world’s greatest storytellers – Roald Dahl and Steven Spielberg – THE BFG will see a UK release on 22 July 2016.
The Big Friendly Giant will be impersonated by Academy Award winner Mark Rylance and his unlikely friend Sophie by newcomer Ruby Barnhill. Read my spoiler-free review. You only need to know it’s a wonderful film for both children and parents.
