Film review: Pride

There’s no ignoring the new British movie, Pride. The publicity machine has been working overtime and the 80s comedy/drama eventually lands in cinemas this week. It’s already been likened to Billy Elliott and The Full Monty and, while there’s some obvious parallels, this is a film that goes its own way. But does it live up to the hype?

The morals we took from The Boxtrolls film was ‘don’t be afraid of who you are and not to judge anyone unfairly’. My two boys, aged 5 and 8 liked the film a lot and discovered 3D for the first time thinking it was the greatest invention. The Boxtrolls characters were very ugly but had hearts of gold. The way ‘Fish’ looked after ‘Eggs’ as a baby and showed him how to make use of everything that was thrown away and to protect themselves from evil in the town.

Hugh Grant is back! A new cheesy British RomCom is just what I need to cheer up after the Summer. And that’s what THE REWRITE promises to be. Lionsgate UK will release THE REWRITE in cinemas across the UK from the 8th October 2014.
