October looks like being Fassbender Month. His bio-pic of the founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, closes the London Film Festival in a few weeks’ time but, before then, he stars in the latest adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The original play has a reputation for being unlucky, so how does this film version fare? London Mums film critic, Freda Cooper, finds out if “something wicked this way comes”.

It’s smaller films to the fore on this week’s Talking Pictures, which is out now! There isn’t a blockbuster in sight, but you’ll be able to find the new releases in London cinemas.
Out this week is Life, which traces a couple of months in the life of cinema icon, James Dean. Michael Shannon is the estate agent you love to hate in recession-set 99 Homes, and there’s emotional drama Mia Madre. On DVD, Samuel L Jackson stars as the US President in Big Game and there’s hard hitting British coming of age movie, The Goob.

From Warner Bros. Pictures comes PAN, a live-action Peter Pan feature which is the very first imaginative prequel to Peter Pan’s stories. It has never been done before and this makes this movie so original. It’s a Neverland story that has never been told before and that explores the friendship between Peter Pan and Hook before it turns bad for good. The real villain here is eternal youth seeking Pirate Blackbeard (played by no less than Wolverine aka Hugh Jackman).
