Last night London Mums’ contributor Rosalba Costantini attended a special screening of Tron: Ares, Disney’s long-awaited return to the digital universe it first created over 40 years ago. This is what she thought of the latest sci-fi flick. “As someone who grew up fascinated by the idea of humans entering computer worlds, I couldn’t wait to see how this new chapter would bring the story into our AI-driven age.
Directed by Joachim Rønning, Tron: Ares feels both nostalgic and refreshingly current. The visuals are stunning – sleek, glowing, and immersive — but what surprised me most was how emotional the film is. It’s no longer just about technology; it’s about what it means to feel in a world built by code.”

The story
The story follows the son of the original creator, who finds a way to bring digital beings into the human world for only 29 minutes at a time. During one experiment, Ares — a programme built for logic and innovation — encounters rain for the first time. Watching Ares reach out to touch those raindrops, sensing not data but emotion, was unexpectedly moving. It’s that moment that turns a sci-fi spectacle into a film about life, empathy, and longing.
Tron: Ares asks a haunting question: how long can something artificial remain mechanical before it starts to become human?

The verdict
“Leaving the cinema, I couldn’t help but reflect on how close we are to living in that blurred space between human and machine. The film’s digital beauty and emotional depth stayed with me long after the credits rolled — a rare mix of futuristic wonder and heartfelt storytelling that speaks to our times.

For fans of the original Tron, this is a worthy successor. For newcomers, it’s a visually breathtaking and thought-provoking journey into what consciousness might look like tomorrow. And for London mums like me, it’s a gentle reminder to stay curious — to guide our children through a future where technology will keep evolving, but empathy and humanity must always lead the way.”
London Mums’ rating: 7/10
Disney’s “TRON” sequel releases in UK cinemas 10 October 2025.
