London Mums Magazine was invited to review the latest supernatural horror film The Conjuring directed by Michael Chaves, to be released on 5th September, 2025.
I’ll admit from the start – I’m not usually a fan of modern horror movies. Too often they rely on gore and shock factor, which isn’t really my cup of tea. That said, I grew up loving classics like Nightmare on Elm Street and Child’s Play (yes, I’m showing my age here!). When I heard this new release had a Child’s Play vibe and was inspired by a true story, my curiosity was definitely piqued.

It took a bit of Dutch courage, but I decided to go – accompanied by two of my teenage nephews. One is a horror enthusiast, the other, like me, absolutely hates scary films and had to be talked into it.
The experience felt very much like being on a roller-coaster. You know what’s coming as you queue up: the nerves, the butterflies, the anticipation. Then, once strapped in, the ride begins – the sudden jolts, the screams, the adrenaline rush. There were plenty of moments where I jumped out of my seat, gripping the armrests for dear life. And when the credits finally rolled, I felt both drained and exhilarated – and yes, ready to say, “That was fun… shall we do it again?”
One of the highlights was watching my poor nephew hide behind his T-shirt during the scariest moments, peeking out only occasionally to see if it was safe!
If you enjoy a horror film that keeps you on edge and delivers genuine shocks without descending into unnecessary gore, this one is definitely worth seeing. It’s best experienced in the cinema for maximum impact – though I’m already looking forward to rewatching it at home with friends, just to see their terrified reactions.
