White on White | Weekly Photography Challenge
May 16 2014
Technically speaking what we’re photographing in this challenge are shades of light grey as white is really the existence of nothing in digital photography terms.
Photographing any subject that is the same colour as the background is tricky at the best of times but the problem with white is that it’s very reflective so it’ll confuse the heck out of your camera sensor.
Four Fun Ideas for the Bank Holiday
May 15 2014With the weather heating up and the final May bank holiday on the horizon, I have three major tasks on my agenda: fun, fun and home improvement. After talking with friends and getting some great suggestions for family friendly fun (try saying that five times fast!) as well as quaint home renovation ideas, there is no reason why the two concepts have to be mutually exclusive. Feel free to hitch your wagon to any of these stellar ideas for a bit of well-deserved entertainment with the kiddies and simple upgrades designed to make your home feel fresh, after all, the next bank holiday is on its way – ok, three months, but there won’t be much time to spruce up your home until August!
The first NCT class
May 14 2014Last week we attended our very first NCT class at the Gooseberry Bush in Wimbledon. The evening was more of an open Q&A session with a smattering of meet and greet but there was some good solid information to get us started. The most surprising thing I learnt was that John Lewis do a nursery tour which somehow completely passed me by!
Film Review: Postman Pat: The Movie
May 13 2014
Postman Pat: The Movie hits the UK cinemas on 23 May 2014.
If you are a big fan of Postman Pat like my 7 year old son who has watched absolutely ALL (with no exaggeration) series many times on TV and on DVD, you are certainly disappointed for the first 10 minutes of the movie while you are getting used to the different voices and CGI faces. But then the characters become familiar again and you start enjoying the gags which the movie has plenty of.
In fact it has so many great gags that I think I missed a few while I was still laughing at the previous one.
Film reviews – our movie marathon: Tarzan and The Amazing SpiderMan 2
May 13 2014
Last Saturday my son and I took a trip to the cinema for our first movie marathon together. We headed to Vue at Westfield London (in Sheperds Bush) because of the very comfy chairs and great viewing from any seat of the cinema there. Vue Cinemas are also launching an ‘All-inclusive Family Package’ in conjunction with First Choice holidays. The package gives families entry into a film, as well as a snack of choice and a drink each. Prices start from £10 per person so a family of four will save over 20% on the cost of a trip to watch the latest blockbuster together. This is a really great offer especially with the Summer holidays upon us! We made the most of it and used the offer to watch Tarzan 3D (PG), a classic tale told in a cartoon created with the most innovative CGI technology and special effects, and later on we stayed to watch The Amazing SpiderMan 2 (12A).
Books for early readers: FREE Secret Seven titles by Enid Blyton
May 12 2014What a great idea for McDonalds (for once) to offer books with all Happy Meals instead of useless and cheap toys. The books being give away are those by no less than Enid Blyton and her Secret Seven adventures.
