At the heart of Richmond, Rainbow Nursery Schools are one of those places mums often talk about at pick-up time – friendly, familiar, and full of the happy energy you get when children feel settled and confident. London Mums reporters went there to check it out.
Proud of serving the local communities in Richmond and East Sheen for over 47 years, Rainbow Nursery Schools are delighted to offer a safe, warm, stimulating and caring environment, providing unique and inspiring experiences.
Currently offering an appealing 17.5 hours of free childcare for eligible families, (10 additional free hours a month compared to any other local setting), Rainbow is a traditional term-time preschool with a community feel. The team is led by a qualified primary teacher with over 30 years’ experience, who understands how young children learn best – through play, curiosity and plenty of exploring. Numerous certified educators and practitioners have continuously worked for years if not decades, demonstrating the strength and consistency of Rainbow’s positive and nurturing workplace culture. All staff are First Aid trained and access a continuous improvement and training platform.

Learning That Feels Like an Adventure
Children are at the heart of what Rainbow offers, the approach is child-centred around real-life experiences. The children spend plenty of time outdoors: in our gardens,on wellies walks, visits to Richmond Park, Bushy Park, theatre and library outings, including the yearly popular private bus trip.
It’s hands-on learning through play that gives them plenty to chat about when they get home. Music sessions, hatchling projects, art and craft, singing time, dancing, maths and literacy mini groups and a Library club to encourage a love for books, fill the days: a robust exciting EYFS curriculum tailored to the children’s interests and development needs.
What Local Mums Say
Mums who already have children at Rainbow, express words which reflect the positive and vibrant atmosphere the nursery is known for.
“My children love Rainbow. We all have lifelong friends from our time there. Staff are brilliant, loving and kind,” says Barbara.
“This is a brilliant traditional nursery. Our kids attended at least 4 other nurseries in Richmond and Rainbow is by far the best. A wonderful Christmas concert for kids in a local church, sports day on Sheen Common, visits to places of interest in the area-you won’t find such activities elsewhere.Well-being development and happiness is a real focus at Rainbow,” explains Elena.
“It’s a really welcoming place, it’s like a second home” from the Ofsted report.

A Great Start to Nursery Life
Rainbow’s Ormond Road, Sheen Park and Sheen Common nursery locations continue to be a popular choice with local families. They are in peaceful and convenient spots and parents appreciate the option of additional afternoon sessions.
Each day is filled with play, activity, imagination and fresh air.
For many families, Rainbow is their child’s very first nursery experience – and it offers a gentle, happy and supportive start.
For others, a place where to build on those previously learned skills and stretch their potential. Close links are offered with all local primary schools for smooth transitions into full time education.

Fully Funded Places Available
Rainbow is currently offering 17.5 hours of FULLY FUNDED childcare spaces for eligible families at our Sheen Park and Ormond road nurseries for 2 & 3 years olds Monday-Friday 9am-12:30pm.
The book bag and the smock are included! If you’re unsure whether you meet the criteria, the team is happy to guide you through it.
