Most of Europe's countries are generally safe, so when basic travel safety measures are applied and maintained, they can be easily enjoyed and spent several trouble-free days in.

6 Major Travel Security Precautions

No matter how most European cities may look, you need to safeguard yourself and your property as much as you can. Below are some of the best basic travel safety tips for visiting Europe.

Always know what is going on around you.

Whenever you visit a small town or a big city like Paris or Rome, never lose your alertness. Pickpocketing is widespread where there are people, tourist attractions, train stations, and other means of transport. Make sure your bags remain zipped up, and have your wallet in the front, or keep a money belt.

Secure your valuables

Do not keep all the money, cards, and identification in one place. Keep passports and extra cash in hotel safes and take only the day-required items. An additional security layer includes a theft-proof or RFID-protected backpack or cross-body bag.

Study local emergency contacts

European countries might have varied emergency contact numbers. In the EU member states, call 112 to reach the police, fire brigade, or medical emergency. It is also nice to keep in contact with the local embassies.

Do not play with ATMs and Wi-Fi.

Where an opportunity exists, use ATMs within banks and cover your PIN. To access the Internet, you should not log in with personal data on free Wi-Fi because of the probability of data leakage unless you have a VPN.

Respect the laws and the people of the land

Every European nation has its special laws and norms of society. Familiarise yourself with a few local rules, dress codes, and etiquette to prevent any confusion about the local ways. Take a closer look at alcohol, photography rules, or how one is expected to behave in the street.

Make a backup of valuable papers

Copy or scan your passport, visa, and travel insurance and save them on the Internet or an exclusive application. This is a lifesaver when you lose your original documents or when they are stolen.
