Online School Opens International Boarding House in Italy

London-based, international online school, School Beyond Limitations (SBL), has announced the opening of its new international boarding house in Lake Maggiore, Italy. Affectionately known by the school and its teachers as SBL Home, the new facility provides UK-based and international students with the opportunity to learn offline in a welcoming space nestled in a small village setting, in small groups of up to eight children. As well as continuing with their usual timetable of live lessons, resident students will also benefit from learning off-screen in an in-person environment, while exploring the local culture, supported by the school’s Boarding Parents, who are responsible for the students during their stay.

As well as hosting three in-person residential trips per year, the new boarding house is part of School Beyond Limitation’s long-term strategic goal to provide more physical, immersive learning spaces for its students. In-keeping with its mantra that learning can happen at any time and anywhere, the school is keen for those students who are less confident or unable to attend residential trips to have other options to learn off screen and socialise in-person with their peers.

Dr Martina Geromin, Co-Founder at School Beyond Limitations explained, “We are delighted to open our first international boarding house in Italy and to give our students more opportunities to learn and grow outside of their usual environment. SBL Home is set in peaceful woodland with a large communal learning space and can accommodate up to eight students comfortably. We are keen to bring our students together in-person wherever we can and for them to experience the spirit of friendship, community and culture in an inspiring setting.”

Students can stay at SBL Home in Lake Maggiore during term time for a minimum of one week, while some students will choose to stay longer. Learning away from their usual home or setting, students will build on their skills such as self-reliance and resilience as well as developing their social and emotional skills, global citizenship and exposure to new cultures.

Based in London with international students from across the globe, unlike any other online school, School Beyond Limitations teaches children in small, mixed-age groups of eight, via collaborative project-based learning, which focusses specifically on their own personal interests.

SBL is an international online school head-quartered in the UK (London) providing primary, secondary and sixth form education for students aged 4 to 19 years. Disrupting the boundaries of traditional education, its students receive a meaningful, personalised learning experience delivered in a unique collaborative, mixed-age environment. Lessons are designed to empower students, unlocking their full potential while bringing their own unique essence to life.

Established in 2019, SBL students learn in small groups of eight and are inspired by curiosity-led, project-based learning including entrepreneurial and financial education. All students are involved in the design of their own learning and educational pathway, whether that means working towards IGSCEs and A-Levels or taking an alternative route. The school also runs three in-person school residentials per year for experiential learning and delivers personalised one-to-one mentoring for students, as well as a bridging year for post-sixth form adults needing support with their future.
