If you’re a London parent looking for an exciting, accessible and unforgettable day out for the whole family this May, let me warmly recommend the Revel Puck Circus Gala Night at the Brighton Fringe Festival – now celebrating its 20th anniversary. I was recently invited to the opening event, and it was nothing short of spectacular.
Before my two days trip to Brighton, the word “circus” carried me straight back to my childhood in 1970s Italy. Back then, going to the circus was a big event – something you’d count the days to. I still remember the thrill of getting dressed up and going with my nonno, my grandfather, to the travelling circus when it rolled into town. There was a hush of reverence as we stepped into the giant tent – that glorious, otherworldly space that seemed to float above the ground and swallow the world inside it.

This Valentine’s Day, I had the pleasure of meeting award-winning London guitarist and composer Billy Marrows at the iconic Handel Hendrix House during one of their brilliant Jamming Session Lates – yes, in Jimi Hendrix’s actual bedroom! It was an unforgettable evening where we all sang along to Jimi’s music, sharing in the joy and raw talent that filled the space. I was so impressed that I picked up Billy’s CD on the spot, and I’m thrilled to hear he’ll now be performing the full album live with his band!
Discus Music will release The Penelope Album Live by Billy Marrows on 28th March 2025, recorded with his stunning 12-piece chamber-jazz ensemble Grande Familia at a sold-out show at London’s PizzaExpress Jazz Club www.billymarrows.com/upcoming-gigs.
