Book of the week: A Very Corgi Christmas

A Very Corgi Christmas is a lovely picture book by Sam Hay about little corgis Belle and Pip who go on a Christmas adventure in London. It is a great addition to my growing collection of books about London

The story

Belle loves the bustle of Christmas preparations at Buckingham Palace, but her family say she’s in the way, and that Christmas is NOT for Corgis! So Belle decides to slip out and explore London, where she’s sure there will be Christmas sprit in abundance!

But on the busy streets, Belle finds everything a bit too bright, a bit too noisy and far too loud!

Luckily, a streetwise puppy called Pip turns up and whisks Belle off on a wonderfully romantic whirl around the sights of London. All too soon it’s time to head home, but when the couple finally work out how to get back into the palace . . . Pip disappears.

Will Belle ever see him again? Perhaps . . . with the help of a special royal couple, who might just bring Belle a wonderful Christmas surprise.

For dog-lovers everywhere, this Lady and the Tramp-esque romp around London at Christmas is full of heart . . . and waggy tails!

A Very Corgi Christmas is beautifully illustrated by London-based Loretta Schauer. It’s a story that parents can read with their young children (from 2+). It’s published by Simon & Schuster Children’s UK

Author Sam Hay has written more than thirty books including the UNDEAD PETS series, the STELLA & THE NIGHT SPRITES series, the SCREAMING SANDS trilogy, picture book DO NOT WASH THIS BEAR, BUMBLE THE BRAVE KITTEN and picture book STAR IN THE JAR. Sam was longlisted for the UKLA award for her 2009 novel BILLY ANGEL. Sam is a passionate advocate of improving literacy in schools. She runs several book groups for primary school children, challenging, inspiring and supporting creative writing and a love of reading.

Have a lovely Corgi Christmas!

If you love Corgis you’ll be delighted to know that new animation movie The Queen’s Corgi will be released in 2019. Here’s the trailer:
