Last night London Mums’ contributor Rosalba Costantini attended a special screening of Tron: Ares, Disney’s long-awaited return to the digital universe it first created over 40 years ago. This is what she thought of the latest sci-fi flick. “As someone who grew up fascinated by the idea of humans entering computer worlds, I couldn’t wait to see how this new chapter would bring the story into our AI-driven age.
Directed by Joachim Rønning, Tron: Ares feels both nostalgic and refreshingly current. The visuals are stunning – sleek, glowing, and immersive — but what surprised me most was how emotional the film is. It’s no longer just about technology; it’s about what it means to feel in a world built by code.”
The story
The story follows the son of the original creator, who finds a way to bring digital beings into the human world for only 29 minutes at a time. During one experiment, Ares — a programme built for logic and innovation — encounters rain for the first time. Watching Ares reach out to touch those raindrops, sensing not data but emotion, was unexpectedly moving. It’s that moment that turns a sci-fi spectacle into a film about life, empathy, and longing.
