Got a minute? Let’s play a timed game. It is called “what can you do in one minute”. Time management is such an important part of a life balance, and yet, we still can’t seem to manage our time.

Some people are always late, others super early, and others that plan their time to an extreme and can’t be flexible for changing it.

I was fortunate to attend a free time management course at work when I lived in Washington DC. The focus wasn’t just time, but how we spend it and how much we give to each activity, as well as how we prioritise the most important parts of our day/week/month/year.

So many of my clients told me they don’t have “enough time”. I have talked about this before, so I thought it would be fun to share with you a reminder by making it into a game.

Think of all the things you can do in one minute. Then do it based on five minute. Usually, it’s the time we use to just checking our phones instead of doing something enjoyable or beneficial to our well being, or truly productive. Here are my examples. Try timing yourself and see what you can do in just one minute.

1-Minute Activities

  1. Take 6 deep belly breaths – helps calm your nervous system fast.
  2. Stretch your arms overhead – boosts circulation and eases tension.
  3. Sip a glass of WATER mindfully – refreshing and grounding.
  4. Smile (even if forced) – triggers a small mood boost.
  5. Write down one thing you’re grateful for – shifts your mindset positively.

5-Minute Activities

  1. Step outside for fresh air – reconnect with nature and reset your mind.
  2. Do a short guided meditation or body scan – relaxes and centres you.
  3. Listen to one uplifting song – music can shift your energy quickly.
  4. Write a quick journal entry – clear your thoughts or set an intention.
  5. Do light movement (yoga flow, squats, or dancing) – energises and relieves stress.

When I want to be productive, I make phone calls when I know I’m going to be on hold and just go for a walk while I’m on hold.  It’s productive and good for my body instead of sitting a desk on hold.  I will also call a friend I haven’t spoken to in a while to say “hi, how are you”.  Good for me, good for them.

Have fun and play daily.
