Oct 15 2019

Five years after the release of the hit film Maleficent, Disney is bringing back the horned fairy in a new and captivating film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil which children and adults alike will fully enjoy. I must admit that I end up loving the main character. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will be in cinemas from 18th October 2019 just in time for the school half-term break.

EXCLUSIVE! Comedian and mother Olivia Lee reveals her secrets on how to be mindful mums and how not to lose our marbles

Oct 11 2019

I recently interviewed comedian, actor and writer Olivia Lee – best known for her character comedy and her appearance on Channel 4’s ‘Balls of Steel’ with her slot ‘Prank TV with Miss Lee’ as well as for ‘Olivia Lee’s Naughty Bits’, Olivia Lee: Dirty, Sexy, Funny’. Monica and Olivia talked about Olivia’s album ‘Mindful Mum – How Not To lose Your Total Fucking Shit’ recently released via Decca Records. It’s about a unique spin on mindfulness, bringing laughter and anger therapy together, to battle stress and the pressure of parenting for 21st century mums. Bored of all the worthy meditation tracks that saturate the market, which tell you to just ‘be calm’ to ‘just relax’ and to ‘stay positive’, this is Olivia’s two fingered salute to these. It is a direct reaction to what she describes as “the trend of rigid positivity that this generation seem obsessed with.” Understanding that 8 in 10 parents believe there are more pressures on mums today than there were on their own mothers’ generation, Olivia Lee recognised the need for a modern-day remedy. It is the first album of its kind to exist, with X rated meditation tracks that feature her trademark outrageous no bullshit comedy style, and proudly carries the Parental Advisory Explicit Content label.

Film review: Abominable out in UK cinemas from 11 October 2019

Oct 10 2019

Abominable is a magical poetic and emotional fairytale. It’s an original family animation that London Mums and kids’ club would highly recommend to watch over the forthcoming half-term school holidays. Abominable will be released on 11 October in the United Kingdom by Universal Pictures.

Picture Book of the week: Sulwe by Lupita Nyong’o

Oct 09 2019

As a lifestyle journalist I come across lots of very interesting people every day, but there’s one lady that has inspired me from day one and that is Academy-Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o. I was lucky enough to meet her a few times at the Star Wars: The Force Awakens press conference and at the Black Panther premiere. Those short moments really sealed my conviction that Lupita Nyong’o is a special woman indeed. She is gentle, smart and extremely good looking. I am her biggest fan, having watched all her movies many times: 12 Years a Slave (or which she received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress), Mira Nair’s Queen of Katwe, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Ryan Coogler’s record-breaking box office hit Black Panther. She is publishing a stunning debut picture book called Sulwe through Puffin on 15 October.
