Attraction review: Nathan Sawaya’s LEGO® art expo, Art of the Brick, is back in London

Over the past 10 years, I’ve attended two of Nathan Sawaya‘s exhibitions, prior to the latest instalment of Art of the Brick in Shoreditch. I must say, this one feels more streamlined but comes with higher ticket prices for visitors. The world-famous LEGO® art exhibition, Art of the Brick, is open again in London for this spring.

Here are some key highlights:

  • This LEGO® Art exhibition showcases over 100 LEGO® sculptures, crafted from more than a million bricks.
  • Visitors can expect a diverse array of sculptures, including reimagined interpretations of iconic art masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s David, Van Gogh’s Starry Night, and Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, alongside original and imaginative works.

Presented by Exhibition Hub, a leader in travelling immersive entertainment, in collaboration with Fever, a premier global live-entertainment discovery platform, the Art of The Brick opens at The Boiler House (152 Brick Ln, London E1 6RU) on (surprise surprise… Brick Lane in north London today 6th March and will close its doors on 12 May 2024.

Nathan Sawaya, whose creations have captivated audiences worldwide, has evolved his style over the years. Having travelled to over 100 cities across 24 countries and 6 continents, from Sydney to Shanghai, Paris to New York, this former lawyer turned artist continues to enchant audiences.

This collection includes some of his original artwork including a myriad of sculptures, ranging from reimagined classics to innovative installations such as a 6-meter-long replica of a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton and an all-new exhibit titled ‘Kinetic Skulls’. Additionally, visitors can look forward to experiencing an inventive multimedia collection of LEGO® photography created in collaboration with award-winning photographer Dean West.

Mr. Sawaya expressed his excitement about returning to Brick Lane after almost a decade, stating, “London holds a special place in my heart, and I’m very excited to bring the Art of the Brick back to Brick Lane. I hope to rekindle the magic I felt here a decade ago and share the art with a city that never ceases to amaze me.”

Gilles Colinet, Marketing Director at Exhibition Hub, emphasised the unique opportunity the exhibition presents for visitors to explore the art of LEGO® sculpture in a way they’ve never experienced before. Please note that individuals who, like myself, have attended the past two exhibitions may find this expo smaller in scale. With the artist’s growing fame, many sculptures may have been sold. However, for those experiencing this exhibition for the first time, it promises excitement. Additionally, the exhibition is family-friendly.

The exhibition is an enjoyable day out for visitors of all ages, featuring a ‘Play and Build’ area where little and less young guests can unleash their creativity, alongside familiar art pieces and those exploring childhood nostalgia and emotions.

Last but not least, Brick Lane is outside the venue so when you’re done, you can always browse the area to spot the most interesting murals.
