Normans and Crusaders, taking place at Arundel Castle from 15-17 April, will transport visitors to the end of the 12th Century, when England was under the rule of Richard the Lionheart.
With King Richard dead and his unpopular brother John now King, England has been plunged into The Barons’ War. Arundel Castle guards the road linking the Medieval ports of Shoreham, Pagham, and Portsmouth, as well as access to the sea via the River Arun, and so it is the logical mustering point for men, and supplies. But who will the Earl of Arundel support, King John or the Barons?
Set within a historical tented encampment, Raven Tor Living History Group will be recreating the crafts, weapons training and battle tactics of the late 12th century. With a story teller and falconry, plus archery and combat demonstrations, the weekend will be filled with the sights, sounds and smells of the late Norman period.
