Join in the Great Sense Pompom Challenge

National deafblind charity Sense is calling on people to unveil their inner pompom maker as part of a new campaign to spread the word about sight and hearing problems and deafblindness.

‘The Great Sense Pompom Challenge’ aims to collect thousands of pompoms from around the UK and beyond – any colour, any material, any size. The plan is to raise awareness of sight and hearing loss by weaving the pompoms into a massive tapestry that will travel across the UK.

Richard Kramer, Sense Deputy CEO, said:

“People with both sight and hearing difficulties often use other senses, such as touch, to connect with the world around them. By making a pompom people can tune in to their own sense of touch and connect with the 250,000 deafblind people in the UK.”

The campaign will also be online and pompom makers can upload a photo of their pompom either through our website, Facebook or twitter. We want photos of people with their pompoms travelling, jogging, gardening or celebrating.

The campaign, which starts on 18 November and lasts until 2 December 2013 is being supported by artist Stella Vine, fashion design and artist Alex Noble and stylist and costume designer Katie Greengrass.
