Book review: The Book of You – Daily Micro-Actions For a Happier, Healthier You

Book recommendation and I haven’t even finished it – but already love it.

The Book of You – Daily Micro-Actions For a Happier, Healthier You. By various contributors of various walks of life and professions.

The book is broken down into four categories: Food, Mind, Move, and Love.

The Book of You – Daily Micro-Actions For a Happier, Healthier You

It is a book designed to use daily to instigate change.  By taking the sum of small micro-actions you do every day, it highlights the significant changes that can occur in your life and your choices.

A micro-action is small, simple and achievable in a normal day.  For anyone, “Meditate for twenty minutes” isn’t a micro-action but “sit quietly for two minutes” is.  “Run a marathon” isn’t a micro-action but “take the stairs” is.  Simple, but they make all the difference.

I think we have all experienced a task or started a new challenge thinking “this is hard” and a week later had the “AHA” moment.  It clicks and we just “get it” or realise, we can do it.  Sometimes it happens without even having to think about it at all.  I love that feeling.  It reminds us not to solely give up at the first attempt.

When learning yoga and they described “getting into the vinyasa flow of breathing”, I couldn’t figure out what the heck they were talking about, but then one day, I realised my breath was in sync with the movement of flow and it felt euphoric.  The movements were easier and my body felt great.  It still fills me with joy when I am doing a flowing sun salutation.  But the steady breath helps even in the harder holding postures.

You can start this book any day of the year.  Treat yourself or give it to someone who needs a kickstart that is more than manageable.  It’s micro-manageable.

Wishing you good health and wellbeing on the start of a new journey.
