Indulging in the art of afternoon tea at Biscuiteers Notting Hill

When it comes to quintessential British traditions, afternoon tea ranks high on the list. A charming affair that exudes elegance and relaxation, it is a delightful way to spend time with loved ones while savouring an assortment of delectable treats. On a recent visit to London, I had the pleasure of treating my Italian girlfriend, Martina, to an afternoon tea at Biscuiteers Notting Hill, and it turned out to be an experience we will cherish forever.

Nestled in the heart of the vibrant Notting Hill neighbourhood, Biscuiteers is a haven for biscuit enthusiasts and lovers of sweet indulgence. Stepping into the boutique, we were greeted by a whimsical display of hand-iced biscuits, showcasing intricate designs and vibrant colours that immediately set the tone for the afternoon ahead.

The afternoon tea at Biscuiteers offers a good selection of finger sandwiches, exquisite patisserie, and freshly baked scones, all accompanied by their iconic hand-iced biscuits. Each item on the menu is meticulously handcrafted by the talented patisserie team, and the attention to detail is evident in the taste and presentation of every bite.

As we sat down to enjoy our afternoon tea, we were greeted with a warm smile and attentive service from the staff. The finger sandwiches were delightfully light and flavourful, offering a mix of classic and inventive fillings that pleased both traditional and adventurous palates.

The patisserie selection was a work of art, with each pastry showcasing not only culinary expertise but also a dash of creativity. From the delicate macaroons to the rich chocolate eclairs, every bite was a symphony of flavours.

The highlight, of course, was the hand-iced biscuits. Adorned with intricate designs and vivid colours, they were almost too beautiful to eat. But when we did take a bite, we were rewarded with a delightful harmony of sweetness and texture. The biscuits were not only visually stunning but also incredibly crunchy, making it difficult to pick a favourite amongst them.

Accompanying our afternoon tea was Biscuiteers’ bespoke blend of  tea. Specially curated to complement the array of treats, the tea was a comforting accompaniment that enhanced the overall experience.

One cannot deny that the afternoon tea at Biscuiteers is a generous spread, and despite our best efforts, we found it challenging to finish everything. However, the thoughtful staff ensured that we didn’t miss out on any part of the experience by providing a charming ‘doggie bag’ to take away any leftovers. As a frequent visitor to Biscuiteers, I can attest that the Notting Hill location holds a special place in my heart. The quaint surroundings and the neighbourhood’s unique charm added an extra layer of magic to our afternoon. However, I must mention that the Belgravia shop, with its spacious layout and colourful chaise lounges, offers an equally enchanting setting for tea enthusiasts.

For those looking to add a personal touch to their afternoon tea, Biscuiteers offers the exciting DIY Icing experience. This hour-long activity allows guests to unleash their creativity and decorate their own biscuits with edible decorations and a range of icing colours. The experience is both fun and rewarding, making it a perfect option for birthday celebrations or simply to add a touch of uniqueness to an afternoon outing.

Our afternoon tea experience at Biscuiteers was arranged for a review, but that in no way diminished the joy and satisfaction we derived from it. The combination of the pretty premises, friendly and encouraging instructors, and, of course, the delicious biscuits, made it an afternoon to remember. While I may not possess the icing skills of a professional, I relished every moment spent decorating my own biscuits during the DIY Icing experience.

Whether you’re a local looking for a charming spot to unwind or a tourist in search of an authentic British tradition, Biscuiteers Notting Hill delivers an special journey of flavours and creativity that will leave you with cherished memories and a longing to return.
