Exhibition review: The Future of Money at the Bank of England Museum

Looking for a fun and educational day out with the kids? Well, look no further than the Bank of England Museum’s latest exhibition: “The Future of Money“!

Ever wondered if the tooth fairy can go cashless? Or if cryptoassets are the new coins of the realm? These are just some of the fascinating questions explored in this eye-opening exhibition.

Money, money, money! It’s not just a catchy ABBA song; it’s something that’s been changing faster than a toddler’s mood swings in recent years. With digital and contactless payments taking over, it’s time to take a closer look at how we handle our dough.

But fear not, fellow parents! This exhibition isn’t just about boring old economics. It’s about the future of money and how it affects us all, from pocket money to pension plans.

The new banknotes featuring King Charles III’s portrait will enter circulation on 5 June 2024. You will still be able to use all polymer banknotes that feature the portrait of Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The portrait of the King will appear on existing designs of all four banknotes (£5, £10, £20, and £50), with no other changes to the existing designs. This means you can check these notes in the same way you can check the polymer banknotes featuring Queen Elizabeth II.

Another fun part of the exhibition is the golden bar which people can try to single-handledly lift (it’s 13 kilos heavy).

Curious about digital currencies? Wondering why cash is still king in some situations? Or maybe you just want to know who’s pulling the strings behind the scenes. Well, you’re in luck because this exhibition has all the answers.

And the best part? It’s totally free! Yep, you heard that right. No need to dip into your piggy bank to enjoy this enlightening experience. Just pop on down to the Bank of England Museum and prepare to be amazed.

So, whether you’re a financial whizz or just a curious soul, make sure to check out “The Future of Money” exhibition before it disappears like loose change down the back of the sofa. Trust us, you won’t want to miss it!

And remember, this free exhibition at the Bank of England Museum is open until September 2025, so you’ve got plenty of time to swing by and get your money’s worth. See you there, money mavens!
