London Mums was born in 2006 when journalist Monica Costa became a new mum to her son, Diego. Back then, there was no Facebook or Instagram – mums connected the old-fashioned way, through the Eileen Lecky Clinic breastfeeding café in Putney, daily buggy walks and endless email chains. One unforgettable moment came when a V&A security guard asked if it was “National Pram Day” as 40 mums with strollers rolled in together for one of the group’s very first outings. From those humble beginnings, London Mums grew into a thriving peer-support community – first as a simple Google page, then on WordPress, and now (in 2025) as a cutting-edge digital magazine.
Over the years, London Mums has been recognized by City Hall (celebrated at a public ceremony in 2019) and even by No.10, when Prime Minister David Cameron invited Monica Costa to acknowledge her as one of Britain’s top parenting editors. Supported by successive Mayors of London, the community has gone from strength to strength – while never losing its grassroots spirit.
Today, London Mums is the FREE and INDEPENDENT network for mums and mumpreneurs in London. Run by mums for mums, we support each other through the joys and challenges of raising children in a busy city. We share honest tips, organise playgroups and workshops, celebrate culture with trips to galleries, films and nature walks – and most importantly, offer friendship and solidarity.
Looking ahead, the new London Mums Magazine will harness interactive platforms to tell the real stories of parenting and family life – from fashion, travel and wellbeing, to music (both rock stars and nursery rhymes!) and lifestyle choices that matter to modern families.
We couldn’t be prouder of where we started – and where we’re going.
