Halloween at Kenwood House: A Spooktacular night to remember

This Friday 17th October, I went to Kenwood House for the opening of their Halloween at Kenwood Trail, and I have to say – it was truly spooky! Even the little ones were scared!
For me, the fright actually started before I even arrived… I decided to take the woodland path to reach the house, and suddenly it was pitch black. I honestly felt like Little Red Riding Hood wandering through the dark woods – scaaarryyyy!
Once inside the grounds, I was greeted by a magical and eerie atmosphere. The sounds, the lights, and the decorations were absolutely superb – every detail perfectly crafted to give you a little shiver. But the headless horse-riding knight in a flowing black cape stole the show – chillingly brilliant!

Family Fun & Atmosphere

The Halloween Trail at Kenwood House is a must for families this spooky season. The light installations, creepy sounds and forest shadows create a wonderful sense of enchantment – spooky enough to thrill the grown-ups, yet playful enough for little ones (though a few did cling to mum and dad along the way).
As twilight falls, the trail winds through Kenwood’s historic estate, filled with eerie surprises, shimmering lights and mystical installations. You’ll find ghouls, skeletons and creepy critters lurking at every corner — all beautifully illuminated against the dark autumn sky.
The trail features a Spider Tunnel, a Slime Web (watch your step!), a warped Laser Garden, and even Selfie Stocks & Cages for the brave. Every turn brings something new, blending humour with genuine chills.

The Headless Knight

Forget Dracula or Frankenstein – the Headless Horseman was the true star of the night. Galloping through the mist with his black cape flying, he managed to be both terrifying and mesmerising. Children screamed, adults gasped, and I… well, I took photos (obviously).

To make the evening even more memorable, I spotted Dermot O’Leary with his son enjoying the spectacle – including a magician performing tricks with a flaming stick! It was one of those classic London moments when everyone, famous or not, is caught up in the same joyful fright.

Cosy After the Scare

After all the thrills, we warmed up with hot cocoa under the fairy lights.
There’s something special about spooky nights that end with giggles, glowing pumpkins and marshmallows. For those who fancy something stronger, Freemans Event Partners serve wicked drinks such as Spiced Apple Pie cocktails and hot toddies, alongside treats like churros, the Heaven & Hell burger and the Vampire Dog.

A Frightfully Fun Halloween for All Ages

Few of London’s historic estates are as bucolic as Kenwood House. For decades, English Heritage has cared for this neoclassical gem overlooking Hampstead Heath, beloved by dog-walkers, families, and Londoners seeking a moment of countryside calm in the city.
This Halloween, it transforms into something far darker – and far more gothic. Perfect for families, friends and couples in search of a spooky adventure, the Halloween at Kenwood is one of the best Halloween trails I’ve ever seen – truly scary yet utterly enchanting.

If you’re after a thrilling Halloween experience in North London, this is the one to book!
