Theatre review: Richard III starring Bridgerton’s star Adjoa Andoh at the Rose Theatre

Adjoa Andoh, who gained fame for her portrayal of Lady Danbury in Netflix popular show Bridgerton, is currently channelling all her creative efforts into the upcoming play, Richard III, at the Rose Theatre in Kingston. Andoh not only serves as the director but also portrays the titular character, who is infamous for his disabilities and social rejection. The play’s unique rendition envisions Richard as the only black person residing in a Cotswold village, reminiscent of Andoh’s childhood surroundings.

Exhibition review: Style & Society, Dressing the Georgians at Buckingham Palace, The Queen’s Gallery 21 April – 8 October 2023

The joy and surprise of the Style & Society, Dressing the Georgians exhibition is the inclusion of the intimate along side the grandiose.  I was expecting ranks of Coronation and ceremonial robes. This is an exhibition curated by the Royal Collection Trust, in collaboration with Historic Royal Palaces, at Buckingham Palace no less. And it does not disappoint, with Princess Charlotte’s wedding dress, complete with gold threads of six different thicknesses. And the sumptuous court dress that juts out like a riot barrier.

New Music! Acid Jazz artist Monday Michiru’s album ‘ENSO’

Last night, The Forge in Camden Town, London played host to a special one-off concert by Monday Michiru, the Japanese singer/songwriter and pioneer of the acid-jazz movement in the early 1990s. This show was part of the Acid Jazz & Other Illicit Grooves exhibition and tour that is taking place in Camden 19-24 April 2023. Tomorrow is the last day of this special event in London before it goes to Luton and Bristol. Tickets available from here.

Monday Michiru has been releasing solo albums since 1991 and has collaborated with a number of renowned musicians and bands including Basement Jaxx, Kyoto Jazz Massive, DJ Krush, Masters at Work, United Future Organisation, Mondo Grosso, and Soul Bossa Trio.
