Here come the leg cramps

A few night ago I was awoken at about 2am by noise which I can only describe as one which sounded like my wife being brutally murdered in the bed next me. Normally when my wife hurts herself (which she does far too often see My wife falls over) she goes all quiet and deals with the pain internally whilst making a little owwww noise. She doesn’t make a little owwww noise with leg cramps.

The Birthing Plan 1.0

Last week we received advice from a well known baby clothing shop after we join their mailing list. “You can also start to think about preparing your birthing plan – getting familiar with what’s going to be happening in a few months time and seeing the environment where you will be giving birth can all be quite calming.” It just so happens that we are soooooo prepared and on…

Crying over cous cous

As the second trimester comes to a close I think I’ve been coping with the pregnancy well so far so I’m inclined to give myself a big pat on the back. My wife however seems to be embracing every pregnancy symptom that exists. The sickness has been replaced by pains and thankfully she’s able to keep a whole meal down. A couple of weeks ago we had what I like to call “The…

Spira Portraits - A New Way of seeing

Today Memory Gate Photography are launching probably the biggest innovation in photography and art since the introduction of digital photography. We call it Spira Portraits but really what we have created is much more than just a name, it’s a new way of seeing. We believe that if Pablo Picasso was alive today this is the sort of imagery that he would be creating. It’s inspired by…

30 Unique ways to spell the name Unique

I got a lovely text from my friend the other day with a picture of his newborn baby and all the usual vital statistics. Born at 4:48am, poor guy I thought, he must have had a long night. But it was the last bit of the message really caught my attention “name still be debated”. That’s a foolish thing to send to me I thought, he should know better. So began a barrage of…

Is all we want a healthy baby?

All we want is a healthy baby I wonder how many people ACTUALLY believe this statement when they’re saying it? I can understand if it’s a statement that comes with some history and I’m not saying that everyone doesn’t hope for a healthy baby. What I’m suggesting is that is not ALL want people want. Or maybe it is, maybe pregnancy turns you into an idealist where…

My wife falls over

There’s a misconception that women are great at multitasking and my wife is proof of that. I’m not suggesting that men are better at dealing with more than one task at a time either, I’m writing this article on a train and I’ve just missed my stop. This is going to sound like a wife beater in A&E but my wife is pretty clumsy. She walks into trees, lamp posts and door…

Baby Playlist

A few weeks ago all of my wife’s pregnancy apps started telling us that baby can hear now. The general consensus from all of these apps are that we should sing to our unborn child. Strangely there’s nothing about discouraging parents from reading the Daily Mail out loud but I guess that’s just common sense. I’m by no stretch of the imagination a vocalist but in my twenties…

1st time dad at The Baby Show

Last weekend I attended The Baby Show at London’s Excel Exhibition centre. If you’ve been following my Sympathy Pains articles you’ll know that my wife and I are expecting our first child this summer so my reasons for attending the show weren’t all work related. Obviously I had my London Mums press hat on and my Baby Photographer sunglasses but I was wrapped firmly in a…

So what are you having?

That is the first question that people ask you when you announce that you are having a baby. That or “Do you know what you’re having having?” I especially like the second question as it implies that I might be the sort of person that finds out the sex of my future child but decides to keep it a secret…..for some reason. I’ve since realised that “So do you know…
