By Francesca Lombardo – Following in the footsteps of Venice, Rome too made a massive effort this year not miss the 15th Edition of the Rome Film Festival despite Covid19. The film festival will be packed with film screenings from all over the world, special encounters, conferences and plenty of special sections and exhibitions.
From the 15th to the 25th of October, the Auditorium Parco della Musica will see actors, actresses, directors, screenwriters, and above all audiences return to the Fest’s traditional venue and recreate that marvellous festive atmosphere created by partaking in the passion for film.
This year’s official poster for the Rome Film Fest is photo of two film icons: Sidney Poitier and Paul Newman in a relaxed moment on the set of Paris Blues.
The Festival cannot miss this year to pay a special tribute to Roman born and bred international giant Ennio Morricone, whose music has made unforgettable many iconic films.
“The recent death of the composer Ennio Morricone was an enormous loss for film and for Rome, his own city. The decision to name the Auditorium after him was unanimous, a testament to the universal love for his music and artistry among audiences the world over. The Fest will pay tribute to the maestro by filling the air with his timeless compositions as the artists walk the red carpet, ushering them into the Auditorium with this uniquely evocative soundtrack” says Mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi.
The Festival presents 24 films and documentaries in the Official Selection, 2 Co-productions with Alice nella città, 5 Everybody’s talking about it, 6 Special Events 14 Close Encounters. There will be also a retrospective of 15 titles, and pre-opening screening and will give a special Lifetime Achievements Awards to British Film Director Steve McQueen
BNL PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD Audiences can vote for the films of the official selection at the My Cityplex Savoy “Acea”, at the first repeat screening. The film that gets the greatest number of votes will be awarded the BNL People’s Choice Award of the fifteenth edition in collaboration with the Main Partner of the Fest, BNL Group BNP Paribas.

Francesca Lombardo is an Italian-British journalist, writer, and independent children’s book author who has contributed and worked for some of the most important newspapers and tv networks in the UK and Italy. She graduated from La Sapienza in Rome in Media Study and Literature and has obtained a Master’s degree in Printed Journalism from the LCC of London. She has been reporting on films for SkyCinema Italy from London from 2010-2018 as well as written regularly on cinema for La Repubblica’s Saturday magazine: La Repubblica delle Donne.
Her writing has been published by the Financial Times, Sky Cinema, The Sunday Times, The Telegraph, the Herald (Scotland), The Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday, The Sunday Express, Express, The Irish Times, Sunday Business Post, A Place in the Sun, Vogue Italy, D Repubblica, L Espresso, Il Venerdi, Gioa, Tu Style, Vogue Uomo, GQ Uomo, House Hunter in the Sun, CNBC magazine, Easy Jet Magazine, Ryainar Magazine, Il Sole 24 Ore, and many more magazines. In addition to this, she works as a consultant for companies on copywriting, communication, marketing, and digital content production projects.
As part of the children’s book series she has written, Beatrice and the London Bus and she has created an educational project London Meets its children for which she has collaborated with the GLA (Greater London Authority) Education Department, Kids Company, Merlin Entertainment (London Eye) The Classic Tour, the London Transport Museum. She presented the Beatrice and the London Bus book series on London Live News in 2017 and currently runs publishing, book, and writing workshops for schools, universities, and educational organizations.
