The whole place is impressive, but what steals the show is the Big Blue, Europe’s deepest shark tank at 8.5 metres. You walk through a clear tunnel while sand tiger sharks and rays glide right above your head, surrounded by over a thousand fish.
The scene is simple but it leaves you speechless and it’s a clear winner with children. They freeze, eyes wide, just watching. You can easily spend a good while there, heads tilted up, waiting to see what swims past next. Even the most restless kids stay put.
Finding Substance Beneath the Spectacle
Palma Aquarium is more than an attraction. It’s also home to a foundation that rescues turtles, sharks and marine life around the Balearics, treating injured animals and returning them to the wild.
The clever part, for parents, is that the learning is woven into the visit. Interactive Experience Labs let children get hands-on and understand how the animals actually live, and there are guided chats with the aquarium’s marine experts. One fact tends to land hard: almost all the rescued turtles had swallowed plastic. Mine talked about it the whole way home — no lecture required.
More Than Just Tanks
When they need to burn off energy, head outside to the children’s area, with a pirate-ship playground and a water-jet fountain that’s a lifesaver on a hot afternoon, plus the indoor Ocean Play area for cooler days. It’s the kind of detail that lets parents grab a coffee while the little ones run wild.
