Saturdays were made for lazy lie-ins, not dragging the kids around a crowded supermarket. So, how about swapping the trolley for a tote bag and making a proper day of it? I’ve done the legwork (literally, my feet are still recovering) to bring you the ultimate guide to London’s best family-friendly markets, perfect for a weekend adventure without the usual weekend stress.

The people’s champion: Borough Market
You can’t talk London markets without mentioning this foodie paradise. With over 100 stalls tucked under Victorian glass roofs, Borough Market has been feeding Londoners for over 1,000 years. It’s like a delicious geography lesson without the textbooks.

What’s the Vibe? A buzzing, delicious maze of smells and sights. You’ll find everything from fresh sourdough and artisan cheeses to sizzling raclette and maybe even a cheeky oyster.
Mum’s Verdict: It’s sensory heaven, but it gets packed. Aim for a Tuesday or Wednesday morning, or get there right when it opens at 10 am. Hold tiny hands tight!
When to Go: Mon-Fri 10am-5pm, Sat 9am-5pm, Sun 10am-4pm. Best on a weekday morning for breathing room.
Find It: London Bridge, SE1 9AL.
The East End Hipster: Broadway Market
If you want to feel like a cool East London mum for the day, this is your spot. Located on a car-free street, it’s a local favourite bursting with organic farm produce, street food, and craft stalls.
What’s the Vibe? Trendy, creative, and genuinely friendly. You’ll see loads of young families here grabbing a coffee and a pastry from a local bakery.
Mum’s Verdict: Very child-friendly. Afterwards, you’re right next to London Fields park (with a massive lido!) and a city farm just south, perfect for burning off that sourdough energy.
When to Go: Saturday only, 9 am–5 pm.
Find It: Hackney, E8 4QJ.
The Instagram Dream: Columbia Road Flower Market
Calling all plant lovers! Even if you can’t keep a cactus alive, this street is pure joy. It’s a riot of colour, scent, and Cockney banter.

What’s the Vibe? Imagine a narrow Victorian street completely flooded with flowers, plants, and street musicians. It’s a feast for the eyes.
Mum’s Verdict: Great for kids who love colours, but it’s a single-file shuffle on Sundays. Go early (like, as soon as it opens at 8 am) to beat the selfie-stick wielding crowds.
When to Go: Sunday only, 8 am–3 pm.
Find It: Columbia Road, E2 7RG.
The Historic Stunner: Leadenhall Market
One for the “Harry Potter” fans in the house (it was used as Diagon Alley). This gorgeous Victorian covered market is worth the trip for the architecture alone.
What’s the Vibe? A bit fancy, very polished, with stunning glass ceilings. It’s more about boutique shopping and posh lunches now, but it’s getting back to its market roots.
Mum’s Verdict: It’s great for a wander and a photo op. Keep an eye out for their special weekend pop-ups (SoLo Craft Fair on Saturdays, Vintage & Flea on Sundays) from April to December, perfect for finding unique gifts.
When to Go: Market pop-ups run from 12-5pm on select weekends.
Find It: Gracechurch St, EC3V 1LT.
The Teen Dream: Camden Market
Got a tween or teen in tow? Head straight to Camden. It’s loud, proud, and wonderfully weird.

What’s the Vibe? Edgy, alternative, and full of energy. It’s actually three markets in one: Hawley Wharf (family fun), Camden Lock (crafts and food), and Stables (vintage and alternative fashion).

Mum’s Verdict: Must be 8+. It’s huge and crowded, but the teen appreciation is worth it. Hawley Wharf is the most family-friendly bit, with an indoor theme park (Babylon Park) and a Curzon cinema.
When to Go: Daily, 10am-7pm. Go on a weekday if you can.
Find It: Camden High St, NW1 8AF.
Happy market hunting! Now go forth and eat, shop, and explore like the London legends you are.
Love,
Monica x
